Yakiniku Daidomon
After a very pleasurable and gratifying dinner at Aburiya some time back, HFB was looking forward to his next Yakiniku meal (焼き肉 or 焼肉), or Japanese BBQ-styled of cooking bite-sized meat over flame of wood charcoals carbonised by dry distillation (Sumibi (炭火) or gas/electric grill. So off he went to sample Yakiniku Daidomon’s Buffet Dinner (Adult: $63.00 child: $28.00 ) that is only available at their Keypoint outlet along Beach Road.
With slightly more than 100 items to choose from, HFB was absolutely spoiled for choice. So being the Kiasu Singaporean that he is, HFB did his share of research and zeroed in on a few items. For appetisers, it was kick-started with the much raved about Yukke Sushi, or Marinated Beef with Egg Yolk, and it was rightly so – nicely seasoned with spices and sauces such as sesame oil and soy sauce, a raw egg yolk was cracked on top, giving it a smooth velvety taste. The beef was thickly sliced thus granting the person consuming, a nice bite.
The trio of Tuna (Maguro), Salmon (Shake) and Sea Bream (Tai) Sashimi though were disappointing. Although served chilled, it just didn’t tickle HFB's fancy and tasted flat and uninspiring.
The Gyu Tataki, or Marinated & Lightly Grilled Raw Beef was also lacklustre; so much so that HFB thinks the one he had in Bangkok was better.
Surprisingly, the Teiru, or Oxtail Soup that looks boring when served tasted yummy. The gelatinous meat from the oxtail was simply amazing and my only nitpick was there was only one piece floating in the soup.
Once done, the real show begun, and the raw food was set in place. Salmon was thick but filling, thus HFB advise one to go slow and concentrate on other dishes instead.
The Hotate, or Scallop is a MUST try - served whole and juicy, two servings were ordered that evening.
The Kaki Butter, or Oyster with Butter was another orgasmic experience for HFB. Fresh and meaty, cooked it just right and a sweet juicy feasting experience await.
The Ebi, or Prawn was of medium size – nothing fanciful.
The Buta Karubi, or Pork Belly came nicely streaked in fats and tasted wonderful when grilled.
Vegetables were a much welcome break from the meat and the Mushrooms were delightful.
Very high in fat content, it is no wonder the Tan, or Beef Tongue is considered a prized item in Japanese BBQ. Slightly chewy for a bite, however HFB didn’t really fancy it much that night.
The Karubi, or Beef Belly Tender was better appreciated. Slightly marbled – allowed the fats to cook slowly, and what one gets in return is a nice juicy piece of meat.
However, if one think that’s the finest, one would be thrilled to know that the Honetsuki Karubi, or Belly Tender with Rib is one notch better. It tasted so scrumptious that no words can simply describe it and if HFB is to come back to this restaurant, this dish would probably be the reason!
Overall, HFB thinks this is one of those places he will visit if he craves for meat and feel like pampering himself with a treat.

Must Tries: Honetsuki Karubi, Kaki Butter, Hotate, Teiru, Yukke Sushi

Best BBQ buffet in town!
Always pass by beach road and the restaurant that full with red "tang long" attract my intention.been checking around and know that daidomon have been around since 1982, wow, that was when im still a boy!!
went there on the past monday cause i don't wanna be there by weekend where normally is pack. There are 4 of us and the service staff was in good mood i guess,we get a room!
we had the buffet,we ordered some beef tongue, belly tender, ribs, prawn, scallop, pork, cutter fish, tempura, sashimi as well.
sashimi come 1st,not bad that they know sashimi are suppose to have 1st before you go for other food,so that you dun get other food taste overlap the taste of the fish.salmon sashimi was great, and the butter fish as well, the sea bream and tuna was so so......
then our meat was served, the staff told us to take the tan 1st before the other meat, same theory as the sashimi(as what i was told). The tongue was fabulous man, lucky for us,i bet they give me a better quality of tan instead of the normal buffet standard tongue(cos i am a tongue lover,i can tell what is good tongue and what's not!),the 1st 2 portion tan that we get are pinkly color and this mean it is the inner part of the whole tan where by it taste not hard or chewy.indeed, our tan is so testy and nice,u can eventually flip it and break into half in your mouth! haha....finally i found some nice beef tongue around.
Then we go for the belly tender and the rib.Tell you what, those beef serve here are so different from what you can get out there, even we were having buffet, you still can see the slice of beef they serve come with fat on it,it's not a normal pure red color piece of meat, with the fat,the beef taste so soft and tender.same as the rib as well( just different by the rib got a tiny slice of bone on it :p ), i was told by the staff that the beef goes well with their yakiniku( mean BBQ in japs)sauce, in the matter of fact,it is,it's go well with our pork or seafood either.....but i realized the pork and seafood come along with a curry color sauce, staff told me is miso sauce....erm....u mean bean paste sauce?miso?like a miso soup miso?a bit salty.....
share a secret with your all,the prawn in daidomon was gorgeous!I am 100% sure the prawn they serve is not a frozen prawn, cos the meat are so testy and the sweetness of the prawn is still there.one thing good about their chef is they didn't cut the prawn open before they serve it,or else the sweetness of prawn will have been gone,(apply to mostly seafood, especially with shell)i give a star for that.
surprisingly, the tempura only come in when we are mid way BBQ our meat, tempura was all right, nothing so special......ah.....try their ox tail soup......it was so nice........
we end up our night without having any dessert, although they do serve fruits and ice cream for buffet as well, but hell yeah,my stomach are filling with something more valuable than the ice cream or fruits!! haha.....i am meat eater like T-Rex, Not ice cream killer like Paris Hillton! Give a star for that!!
our bill come as $277.77,they charge additional 1 dollar for tea and towel, fair enough, nothing is free in this world.
Gosh, i will be back!
Must Tries: Beef tongue, belly tender, fresh prawn, pork belly, and the wagyu beef if you go foe ala carte.

Indeed a Letdown
Thought of giving this a try since the pictures look so good and price quite steep (hence should not go TOO wrong) plus, the wire gauze featured on the picture looked exactly like the one I had in Osaka...the most pleasurable BBQ (charcoal) dining experience I had in Japan ...but atlas...was I surprised...Could have been better off eating Korean BBQ or Han River...much cheaper and expectation would not be so high...
Cut of the meat (pork) was quite horrible...asked for pork belly...on the same plate, some were super lean, some were abit marbled...some were too thick...marinade and accompanying sauce were total flops. To top it all, the meat came in thick as well as FROZEN...
Ebi tempura was super small...the sashimi wasn't fresh...water melon was tasteless...you name it, they "flopped" it...
The service staff did not know the different cuts of meat when I asked (they had to summon a slightly > experienced staff)...which was a total letdown cos how are they gonna recommend to customers when they are totally clueless????
Only the scallop was ok, given its size...but again, if any housewife knows the market vendors well, not difficult to ask them to help source for big scallops...so that's not a competitive edge and surely no reason for opening a restaurant.
Bill for a buffet of 2 added up to $140...thought that given this price tag, they could maybe offer a more premium ice-cream like movenpick or haagen daz...but again, it tasted just like the ice-cream on the street....
To conclude, don't bother to look forward to its opening of new branch in Novena. Unless of course, you want to show your guests the difference btw good and bad qlty food...

Not as good as it seems
It was my birthday and having heard quite good reviews about this daidomon from here, we decided to go try the buffet.
However, we dont think their beef is that fantastic at all. Beef doesnt appear to be that fresh and it's not really those kind of very high grade beef presented. The shoulder pork surprisingly tastes better than most of the different cuts of beef. Sashimi wasnt that fresh either. I could have better and fresher sashimi at other japanese restaurants. We paid about $140 for 2 pax there and i feel that i could have a better meal at other restaurants for that kind of money. Please think twice before going. By the way, we went on a Sunday and the whole restaurant was EMPTY except the 2 of us.
we are so regret to heard that you are dissapointed when the last time you was dine in at Yakiniku Daidomon.
For your information, international beef grading is from 1 to 12 and the beef that we served in buffet is among 7 or 8. If you did pay attention, you will see the beef that we serve in buffet come with marbling, fat on it, it is not just a slice of beef that come with pure red color as you normaly had at outside and only beef that feed with corn will have marbling. For your further information, all the beef that serve in Daidomon are feed with corn only.
Regarding the freshness of the sashimi, i can assure you that all the sashimi serve in Daidomon is fresh, no matter buffet or Ala carte, because Service And Food Quality Is Our Priority.
At last but not least, i am wondering which Sunday you are dining at Daidomon because not that i know we ever had any Sunday where by we only have 2 customer only.
Please feel free to E-mail us.We are open to all our valued customers' genuine suggestions.
We definitely would like you to give Daidomon another try. Please send us your particulars Via E-Mail. We will be pleased to send you some disscount vouchers.
