Not a fan of Lor Mee, but found it nice
Sep 7, 200831 DEC 2008
Went there again, had a feeling standard is declining... Perhaps its New Year Eve?
06 SEPT 2008
Frankly, I am not a fan of Lor Mee...
Any other day, given the choice, I'd not go for Lor Mee at all...
However, every time anyone I know ordered Lor Mee, I will be reminded of this stall.
I been here a few times (accompany wifey to work on Sat)
We tried this Lor Mee stall and found that it outshine the rest in term of the taste of their gravy. The touch of vinegar and garlic they added to their Lor Mee heighten the depth of the gravy to the next level... and all for $3!!
The standard of their Lor Mee is very consistent, except for the most recent time I went where it did not taste as nice. However, we were there on a late Sat afternoon, and I think they ran out of their garlic mixture (I can only hope they did not remove it from their winning formula!)
Will I go back again? 100% unless wifey don't work around the area anymore...
Be warned though... I heard the weekday lunch queue for this stall is TERRIBLE :PMust Tries

MUST TRY LOR MEE
Aug 14, 2008I'm surprised this is not listed in HGW.
I grew up eating this stall's lor mee since young on weekends, with my mom, who started patronizing this stall way way way when she was a teenager & it was just a small tentage stall along Amoy St. So just to make a note upfront, my review can be bias.
The soup gravy is very rich in flavour - thick & fragrant. & the other ingredients are shredded fish & deep fried 'fish zou' (dunno how to put it). It comes in $2 & $3 portion. Yes, very cheap cheap.
Go up the stairs next to the POSB ATM machine, it's just right upstairs. There's always a Q, even on non-working Sat & Sundays. I always go in the late morning & they'll be closed by late afternoon (I think). The 'workers' there are friendly, no attitude like some famous hawker stalls. Oh, it's closed on every Mon & Tue.
Give it a try. Hope u enjoy it as much as I do.Must Tries

Good and cheap
Oct 8, 2009'Soup' flavor-wise, it doesn't pack a punch and is a little teeny-wee bit on the mild side for me. But I'll still give it 7.5/10 for the way it tastes.
The stall is generous with ingredients and they are really yummy. They come in big chunks - fish, pork, some fried flour thing? Dunno, but it's good!
And the $2 portion is not small at all. It's very, very reasonable and fills up the tummy of a regular girl like me.
It's located right at the last row of the second level of Amoy St Food Centre, the side that's nearer to the temple.Must Tries

a deserving "famous" on their signboard
Dec 9, 2009Sunday brunches are usually convenient affairs, 'eat-on-the-way' concept. Decided to pop by Amoy Street to see if I had some luck with the usually bustling hawker centre. At first glance, it is almost a ghost town on Sundays save for a couple of stalls that decided to feed the hungry. I can easily name 5 stalls open; Lor Mee, Teochew Fish Porridge, Chicken Rice, Char Kuay Teow and a Bakery.
Lor Mee beckoned with the snaking queues, bless their nifty hands...at least the wait was not excruciating. At least 15 minutes will suffice, unless of course you end up with someone taking away 12 sets, like in my case.
Lor Mee ($2/$3)
They use ngoh hiang, boiled shark's meat, pork belly bits and fritters in replacement of the ever popular shark meat fritters at Tanjong Pagar Market and Tiong Bahru Market. The soup is more flavourful though it was served just warm not piping hot. The noodles did not reek of the usual thick, cloying noodle taste. For once, the combination of diced garlic and splashes of vinegar was so complementary! On the most embarrassing note, I did not burp lor mee thereafter.
Normally for places that include 'famous' as part of their signboards, I'd say they are deceiving..but for Yuan Chun, it's well deserving!
