sometimes i am quite apprehensive about having mock meat, because they taste so fake or because they are full of flour, hence carbohydrates, hence very fattening.

i tried Zen Japanese Vegetarian Restaurant today and had the Unagi, Pork cutlet, Cashew Chicken, Black pepper pork, Yusheng with sashimi, Tempura, Tomato Rice and wow. It was good.

It did not taste fake, instead it tasted quite real. In fact, the unagi tasted fishy. They used mushrooms & beancurd to make the fake meat which was healthy, yet with the tasty spices and skilful cooking made all the dishes delightful and pleasing.

The place was relaxing, not too empty nor crowded and staff polite. A nice place, with delicious and sinless vegetarian food that i would definitely go again. Somewhere that meat lovers might grow to like :)

My meat-eater friend recommended this vegetarian restaurant and therefore I go here again. It was not that crowded or empty nor was it it too noisy or too quiet.  Hence, it is an ideal place for a causal meet-up and chit-chat session cum light dinner. What to order is always my problem.

I like Green Tea Soba and Buck Wheat Noodle but I wasn't too sure to order these.  These dishes look easy and simple enough to whip up or maybe I was looking for something else.    We ordered Grilled Skewer @ $10 with some fresh salad. It is nutritious, delicious and good to look at.  The sauce for this dish which tastes like sweeten light soy sauce goes very well with the grilled green chilli, okra, cherry tomatoes, mock meat, mushroom and corn.  Japanese Cuisine is usually served in small amount and therefore for big eater, this is just like finger food.  This dish would be a nice choice for a Vegetarian BBQ at home.  Nothing really extra ordinary special about Claypot @ $20, as it is quite similar to hotpot or steamboat.  The only good is that it allows us to cook the mix vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, dumpling, thick bean vermicelli  and vegetarian seafood (mock meat) slowly and chit-chat at the same time.
