Singapore's Top 10
Ramen
Ramen was introduced to Japan after World War II, when Japanese troops returning from China and other parts of East Asia decided to set up their own Chinese restaurants and re-create the simple noodle dish sold by Chinese push-cart vendors around the region. Consisting of freshly made wheat-flour noodles, various toppings and a pork-based broth, Ramen, originally known as "Chinese Soba", has since become a staple part of Japanese cuisine. In fact, most districts in Japan today have their own signature-style of ramen - Miso Ramen from Hokkaio and Ie Kei Ramen from Yokohama - with the difference styles defined only by the type of toppings and broth used in its preparation.

Why is Nantsuttei Ramen not in the top ten?

Anonymous said: 17/05/10, 2:31 pm
I have tried Tampopo(no.1? wad a joke), Aoba(soup base nt gd enuff), Marutama(wah lau like eat yew mee can?), Men-tei(.....), Beppu(you call dis ramen?) etc,... ultimately Ichibantei @liangcourt/riverside is stil the best(Tonkotsu ramen! i always upsize my charsiew). Regardless which outlet, it still tastes good and authentic. Seeing the craze over ippudo, I will go try it next..

Anonymous said: 03/05/10, 10:20 am
Tampopo is top on the list becos they appealed for votes (in the form of advertisement at the outlet). I've tried the top 5 on the list. My verdict: Ippudo and Santouka are far superior.

Anonymous said: 26/04/10, 1:57 pm
Tampopo? No way! Is the system fixed? How come most #1s are under SC program?

Anonymous said: 26/04/10, 12:39 am
Ippudo is the best.

Anonymous said: 23/04/10, 10:20 am
sucks lor Ippudo ........... so expensive and ramen so little only.......... check out their pathethic small gyoza.........

Anonymous said: 22/04/10, 10:32 pm
I don't deny that MARUTAMA RAMEN is good same goes to SATOUKA too after i had try before . Cause they don't leave any MSG taste after finishing . And i did went to TAMPOPO @ Liang court to try their ramen . And is really fantastic cause it takes more than 1 day to get the very thick pork bone soup base.

Anonymous said: 21/04/10, 11:23 pm
I like Ippudo if in Singapore, Is my taste..

Anonymous said: 21/04/10, 11:32 am
Ichibantei rules!!!

Anonymous said: 21/04/10, 9:36 am

Anonymous said: 20/04/10, 5:22 pm
Beppu Manken Ramen at China Square Central is the best ramen i have had. Their spicy kyushu soup base is just superb.

Anonymous said: 20/04/10, 3:56 pm
baikohken and kyo nichi are both bestest!

Anonymous said: 20/04/10, 3:30 pm
Noodle House Ken is good. The soup base is boiled for hours using pork bones.

Anonymous said: 20/04/10, 1:02 pm
"Marutama Ra-Men is only rank 7? gosh shldn'nt it be the top few and not the bottom few? they have the best brew. how do they come out wit this list?" Hey genius, if you haven't realised by now - the rankings are determined by voting.

Anonymous said: 20/04/10, 12:18 pm
I vote for Tonkutsu ramen from Ichibantei (Liang Court) :)

Anonymous said: 20/04/10, 11:27 am
Tampopo sucks! Marutama is the best!!

Anonymous said: 20/04/10, 11:15 am
Tried the mixed soup ramen at Santouka last week and I think it's quite good! But I have to agree that the soup left me feeling thristy for the rest of the day so maybe there's lots of msg? The egg at Marutama is really good but I think the ramen and the soup is not nice. Tampopo didn't leave a deep impression. I guess I'll try Ippudo soon!

Anonymous said: 20/04/10, 9:06 am
Here's what i think of Ramen In Singapore: Tried Santouka, the salty broth leave a bad msg infected dry spell. got to drink lot of water. Rip off Price at $20 per bowl!! Tried Marutama Ramen, 1 pathethic piece of 0.5mm slice of pork char siew + maggi mee. also another Rip off Price at $12 per bowl!! + Staff speak to me in Japanese while i order in English!. Hellooo..wake up. This is Singapore lah. Huh? still got so many votes for this? After this, i avoid all Ramen Stalls here. Trust me, if you ever tried those in Japan You know what i mean. Maybe I just wait for the Japan food fair. I believe only the Japanese Ramen Shifu can do the job.

Anonymous said: 20/04/10, 8:47 am
You all should try baikohken.. Its value for money and its char siew is heaven!!! huh.. Tampopo?? must be their own stuffs vote de.. -_-".. The chef at baikohken is brought in from Japan Baikohken.. you all should check it out..

Anonymous said: 20/04/10, 8:03 am
OMG!!!!! this listing sucks! Marutama Ra-Men is only rank 7? gosh shldn'nt it be the top few and not the bottom few? they have the best brew. how do they come out wit this list? by their own favourites, knowledge or biasness?

Anonymous said: 19/04/10, 11:16 pm
Go Ippudo!! You are the best

Anonymous said: 19/04/10, 6:43 pm
Being die hard ramen enthusiast. I find that ramen from Tampopo Restaurant gives a natural flavour and taste. The soup stock is excellent as it is refreshing and rich.

Anonymous said: 18/04/10, 4:50 pm
definately is Tampopo, so far the best ramen i have had anywhere

Anonymous said: 18/04/10, 4:43 pm
I like Marutama. It is popular, that's why no need the StandChart to sponser for the 15 % discount I guess.

Anonymous said: 18/04/10, 12:29 am
huh? Tampopo? Is there some mistake? It's not even good.

Anonymous said: 17/04/10, 11:46 pm
yoshimaru!!!

Anonymous said: 17/04/10, 7:29 pm
I heard that aijiman is good? though i havent had the chance to try it yet

Anonymous said: 16/04/10, 6:48 pm
Absolute blasphemy that Marutama is not here. I've tried all on the list and tampopo definately does not belong as no1.

Anonymous said: 16/04/10, 3:32 pm
looks like Ramen is the new bubble tea craze. Since we're on the topic, I tried a new-ish ramen joint at Paragon's basement and it was not good. Spend your calories at Tampopo or Santouka any day!

Anonymous said: 16/04/10, 3:30 pm
Try Yoshimaru!!! u will luv it. :)

Anonymous said: 16/04/10, 1:17 pm
My GOD!!! how the hell did Yu Sai Shoku got into the list?? Shouldn't Marutama be in the list instead? Yu Sai Shoku is just an imitation of other jap restaurant.

pocketace said: 16/04/10, 12:28 pm
Aoba is very good... one outlet in B3 ION and now in Vivocity (level 1 somewhere) Hokkaido influenced Ramen... great value and delicious soup base Tampopo... tried it... didn't make me go 'wow!' has to be Aoba for me...

Man said: 16/04/10, 11:51 am
Hmm... Not all the restaurants have a tie up with stand chart so not entirely true that this list is dubious. Ramen only has 2 with stand chart offers. But yah where is marutama? Should HGW be responsible instead?

Anonymous said: 16/04/10, 11:28 am
Different people got different view on marutama, as people said one people meat, maybe another people poison. But i do notice that those past Top no.1 are those in collaboration with S.C

Anonymous said: 16/04/10, 9:18 am
Tampopo is the best!

Anonymous said: 16/04/10, 8:44 am
marutama sucks!

Akira said: 16/04/10, 12:48 am
I will cast my vote on Marutama... but it's not here. It's the best!

Murasaki said: 15/04/10, 8:47 pm
Just went Tampopo few days ago. No way it's the best. Where is Nantsuttei? Too new? How did they come up with the list. Based on previous shortlists, highly inaccurate 'contest'.

Bee said: 15/04/10, 5:35 pm
Ippudo for me! the noodles is wonderful and they have the best soup! it's not too salty or oily too

yuya said: 15/04/10, 5:24 pm
the fact that marutama is not on the list makes the rest of the choices very suspect....how to trust this top 10 list???

shiaz said: 15/04/10, 1:06 pm

shiaz said: 15/04/10, 1:03 pm

Ken! ippudo is nice but expensive. and super noisy!

Anonymous said: 15/04/10, 12:11 pm
Marautama should be in the list for god's sake. Santouka is not even close!

Phlebas said: 15/04/10, 11:37 am
Kyo-Nichi Ramen @ Marina Square needs to be added to this list!

Anonymous said: 15/04/10, 11:32 am
Where is Marutama Ramen! this list seems to be sponsored by Standard Chartered.... does S.C. not support Marutama for various reason???

shiaz said: 15/04/10, 11:27 am
Santouka & Baikohken the BEST liao lor...............

Anonymous said: 15/04/10, 11:23 am
